Terms & Conditions

Baggage

All fare paying customers have a 15kg baggage limit which must be checked-in 30mins prior to departure. One small carry-on item may be taken on board i.e. Handbag, Day bag or laptop bag. Items such as car seats, push chairs and bikes etc. are considered Excess baggage and are subject to space availability on the day.

Any excess baggage not required to travel can be stored with us free of charge.

Wheelchairs travelling with the owner are free of charge. Must be able to fold down small. Please advise Stewart Island Flights prior to travel.

All Excess/over-sized baggage and freight is subject to availability on the flight and may be deferred until we have space.

Whilst we do not charge for excess baggage, Stewart Island Flights reserves the right to limit the amount permitted as excess at check-in.

Anything above this permitted amount may be considered freight and may be subject to freight charges. Please see below for more info about freight. Families and other passengers travelling as a group to a common destination may group their baggage to obtain the full benefit of baggage allowance.

Liability for lost, damaged or destroyed baggage is governed by the Carriage of Goods Act 1979 and is limited to a maximum of $2000.

Stewart Island Flights accepts no responsibility for damage of fragile articles or perishable articles in checked baggage.


All baggage must be claimed by passengers on arrival at their destination. Passengers must positively identify their baggage upon claiming.
 

Check-In

Please observe the final check-in time shown on your e-ticket, this will avoid cancellation or reallocation of your reservation.

 

Freight

Freight deliveries can be made to both the Invercargill and Stewart Island check-in counters.

The items will be transported between airports and will be held at our offices for collection by the customer. Stewart Island Flights is not responsible for contacting recipients of freight. Certain dangerous goods may be accepted for shipping, provided they have the correct documentation and packaging, please contact us for more information. Some items are not suitable for air travel due to size and/or weight combinations. For unusual items, please call us to discuss.
No single item of freight may exceed 30kgs.

All freight carried by Stewart Island Flights is carried at the owner’s risk.

 

Infants and Children


Infants are defined as persons up to the age of 4.
Children are defined as persons between the ages of 4 &14 years.

Infants will not be allocated a seat and must travel on the accompanying adults lap utilizing the lap belt provided. Two infant's may not be seated on the lap of one adult. Evidence of age may be requested by Stewart Island Flights staff if the infant/child’s age is in question. Failure to provide sufficient evidence may require the purchase of a child/adult fare at check-in.

 

Timetables

Stewart Island flights endeavors to carry passengers and baggage with reasonable dispatch. Times shown in schedules or elsewhere are not guaranteed and form no part of this contract. Schedules are subject to change without notice. Stewart Island Flights assumes no responsibility for making connections. Passengers must bear their own expenses arising from any cause due to over carriage and/or delay, whether of passengers or baggage.

Security & Safety

The safety of our passengers and staff is paramount. We reserve the right to refuse travel if we assess to the best of our ability that a passenger is not fit for travel, including being under the influence of alcohol or other substances. Items considered weapons, including firearms, knives, tools and other items cannot be taken as carry-on items.

Dangerous/Restricted Articles

The following articles may not be carried in passengers checked or cabin baggage
- Compressed Gases (flammable, non-flammable and poisonous)
- Corrosive Materials (such as acids, wet batteries)
- Infectious Substances - Explosives (fireworks and articles which are easily ignited)
- Firearms (may only be carried as checked baggage)
- Flammable liquids and solids (such as 'strike anywhere' matches, lighter and heater fluids, flammable aerosols - this does not include aerosol cosmetics or toilet aerosols)
- Irritation Materials

- Magnetized Materials

- Oxidizing Materials
- Poisons (not including medical prescriptions)

- Radioactive Materials
- Other restricted articles (such as mercury, or noxious materials)
- Additional information is displayed at check-in counters and further details are available on request.

Cancellations

Cancellation of a reservation more than 48 hours prior to the flight departure time shown herein will incur a cancellation fee of 20% of the applicable fare. Cancellation within 48 hours of the flight departure time or failure to avail a flight for which a reservation is held will incur forfeiture of the fare shown herein.

Refunds

To apply for a refund, please either phone us or email info@stewartislandflights.co.nz

Please advise booking number, reason for refund and contact details. On assessment of eligibility and approval, we will process a refund. Please note all transactions are conducted in New Zealand Dollars (NZD). Due to exchange rate fluctuations, at times there may be some variance in the amounts refunded compared to the amount initially charged. Stewart Island Flights do not accept any liability for these variances or any subsequent credit card/bank charges relating to these transfers to customer's accounts.

Validity & Fares

All tickets are valid for 12 months from the date of its original issue except as otherwise provided in the conditions of carriage of Stewart Island Flights. The fare for carriage is subject to change prior to commencement of carriage. Stewart Island Flights may refuse carriage if the applicable fare has not been paid.


Carriage hereunder is subject to:

- The Carriage of Goods Act 1979.
- Applicable terms and conditions of the relevant Air Operator Certificate
- The provisions contained in this ticket
- The conditions of carriage of the actual carrier which are made hereof and are available for inspection at the offices of the actual carrier.

Any changes to our terms and conditions will be updated on this page. By viewing and using this website you will be deemed to agree to these terms and conditions.
